Colin Gibson - Rector
Colin Gibson - Rector

Hello. I am the Rector of St Matthew's and have been here since April 2002. It was great coming to the church and finding the people so warm and welcoming. I hope that will be your experience too should you come along to St Matthew's. I am excited by the way St Matthew's is moving forward at present. We have a great new curate in Liz Chamberlain and a new worship leader in her husband Ray. Liz Burley is our new Family and Children's Worker under whose leadership we are exploring Messy Church and other ways of enriching our ministry to families and children. Church Hill Praise continues to flourish with Chris and Amy Lane's energetic guidance and our Asian Congregation with Pastor Fiaz are always a great blessing to us.

Our vision for St Matthew's is set out in our Mission Action Plan. I am particularly excited about new developments in our healing ministry and about growing the church through Alpha Courses and our network of Cell Groups.

St Matthew's values are summed up in the statement that we want to be an Acts 2 church. In the Bible, Acts chapter 2 verses 42 to 48 describe the early church in the first few days of its existence, newly sprung from the Holy Spirit. It describes five key values they shared:

they were filled with awe in God's presence
            they lived in unity
            they were full of generosity
            they showed hospitality
            and God gave them growth.
My hope and prayer for St Matthew's is that we grow in these five key areas: awe, unity, generosity, hospitality and growth.

I am married to Elisa who is from Finland and is a nurse. We have four wonderful children of whom three have grown up and left home, leaving only Ben at home.
