Lee Norfolk - Youth Worker
Hi. I come from Hull in the North East, and have grown up there all
my life.
I'm currently 23 years old and commencing a degree at St John's,
a Christian
college for Youth Ministry this coming September. I came to
faith through an
organisation called Youth For Christ in Hull working with me
over many
years, attending their youth groups and mission trips to Bolivia
(South
America).
When I went to Bolivia in 2007 this
changed my life forever - seeing the children living there in
the streets
with no hope and future, and then to be given a new chance in
the homes in
Bolivia, I had a revelation that God was real. So when
I returned to
my home town I become a believer in Christ, and starting
attending a young
charismatic church in my city. Since then I have been to Bolivia
a further 3
times - in 2008 for two weeks, 2009 for six months and recently
again to
visit for two weeks. Below is a current update of what's been
happening with the Youth Work in St Matthew's, since I arrived here in
Walsall. Enjoy!
Night
Cafe has been going amazing which I run in partnership with the
Faithworks team, which we have been seeing large numbers of Young People
come to the St Matthew's Centre on Friday evenings from 7.45-10.00.We
have seen a great impact on so may young peoples' lives and have had time
to share the Gospel with them and where they are at on so many
occasions. The big news came when we had some of the kids joined us in
Church Hill Praise for one of the services. This was a real joy to see
them coming into church it was real signs of progress and God's
faithfulness.I believe these young people are the future of our church
and was a blessing to see them come by. It is incredible to see this as
well because so many of them are from rough parts of town with no love
or care ever been shown to them. So thanks for your prayers for this.Youth Church has also seen a rapid increase
of Young People coming along we have had as many as 8 young people
coming now. Some are from the Church itself and some are new to the
congregation. The recent arrival of a Bolivian family from South America has
given us 3 more which I'm delighted about. We are starting to
see a great participation in the young peoples' desire to serve God more
and know him in a deeper way. I'm delighted to have Spanish speakers.
In
Blue Coat School I am currently going in each week
to work with the Young People in an after school club called Puppet
Club, and also going in to play Football. I have seen a great interaction
going on there in the young people opening up in conversation with me
on so many occasions and asking questions etc .Also I have been involved with
many other things including the Vine Trust working with Second
Chance kids and the JCU Christian Union has been growing. Overall I am so
pleased to be in Walsal l,God has shown me so much stuff and blessed me
with a great congregation and church members and feel really at home
here. Please pray for me and God continued blessings on my time here. Just
from walking round the communities I have had Young People wave to me
and stop to say hi. I believe that it won't be too long before we see the
major harvest of Young People coming to know the Lord Jesus in
Walsall. My new house has been a real blessing and am thankful that I
now have a base and this is enabling me to be a even greater presence
to people.
Blessings in Christ, Lee Norfolk St Matthews Youth Worker.
