Family and Children's Work
Family and Children's Work at St Matthew's Church

Children are very important because they are special to God. Jesus said “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.”
Matthew 18:4-6.

In all we do at St Matthews, we put children and families at the centre. Here are some of the ways in which we  do this:

One Sunday of each month (see calendar) we have a children-centred service at 10 am  called “All Age Worship”. This service is child-focused and people of all ages  to participate through singing, drama, craft, leading prayers and helping.

On the other three Sundays each month during the 10 am service we offer Children's Church for children of primary school age. Children's church meets in St Matthew's Centre and is led by a team of CRB checked leaders. There your child will learn what the bible teaches about God, Jesus and living the Christian faith in a safe and caring environment. Learning is done interactively through games, crafts, quizzes, drama and role play. Children aged 11+ are welcome to join Children's Church or stay in with the congregation.
For families with children up to the age of 5 we provide a supervised Creche during the 10 am service. Creche leaders are CRB checked.

On Wednesdays between 9.30-11.30 am the St Matthew's Carers and Toddlers Group meets in the St Matthew's Centre. Here parents, childminders, carers and grandparents find a warm welcome and a chance to relax with a cup of coffee whilst children are busy doing crafts, playing, listening to stories or singing.

Messy Church began in November 2010. See the calendar for the next Messy Church event.

We held a Holiday Club in 2011 which we are hoping to run annually.

If you would like email updates about events at St Matthews for families and children please contact Liz Burley, St Matthew's Family and Children's Worker.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family at St Matthew's very soon.
