Michelle joined St Matthew's fairly recently so I went round to find out how she's been getting on...

How long have you been coming to St Matthew's?

Since June last year.

Why did you decide to go back to church?

Our neighbours are Christians and I felt I wanted to be part of a Church family again - I used to go with my family when I was growing up in Cleethorpes.

How did you feel?

I was nervous. I didn't know what to expect. I wondered if there would be anyone my age.

And how did you find it?

Everyone was very friendly and made feel really welcome. It helped to go on the St Matthew's website and find out a bit more about it. Then someone got in touch and invited me to the 6.30 service - it was great to make a friend.

What do you like best about St Matthew's?

There are lovely people of all ages and all sorts. The Cell Groups are a great idea - I'm really enjoying ours! And the 6.30 service is great.

What did you think of the Alpha Course?

It was very helpful and informative with lots of opportunities to ask questions and explore the issues.

And where does Jesus figure in all this?

Jesus means so much to me now. I never really understood what people meant when they talked about a personal relationship with God or with Jesus, but now I know it's real because it's happened to me.

Can you give me an example of something Jesus has done for you?

My mum has suffered with depression for many years. She has been really, really down and it has affected the whole family. Soon after I started at St Matthew's I began to pray for her intensively and many of my friends prayed too. After a few weeks her life completely turned around. She felt herself filling up with life and optimism. She's started writing again, which the depression had blocked, and she has a new zest for life. It's an answer to prayer and it has had a knock-on effect on the whole family!

What would you change at St Matthew's?

Nothing really. I like both the Morning and the Evening Services though the styles are very different. I have new friends who are true friends. I feel very supported and we have a lot of fun! It's changed my life.
